My Response Video

My video that I have chosen is called "Classroom of the Future."  The video's message is that teachers have to change their ways of teaching for future learners.  It is explaining that the world is changing rapidly and the classroom is going to change also.  I agree one hundred percent with this video.  Everything changes so fast and the classroom and us educators have to change with it.  "Without learning we will not grow up.  Without successful vhange schools will not survive the future" (Dalin 1).

One way classrooms are changing is with new uses of technology.  Each year something new comes out in the technology world.  From Ipods with wireless Internet and cell phones with almost everything, these gadgets help us now with everyday life.  All of this new technology is changing how we teach in the classroom and we are going to have to learn the new ways to keep our classroom up to date.  No longer do we use overhead projectors or chalkboards.  Classrooms now have the amazing Smartboard.  This board helps the teachers make more interactive lesson plans.  From my observation in a classroom all teh students really loved learning from the Smartboard.  They also knew how to use it and they were first graders.  If teachers did not choose to use the Smartboard they would be hurting their classrooms.  This new piece of technology really helps the students to learn and want to learn.  New technology in the classroom isgoing to make the classroom more visual and hands on.  By using new technology in the classroom a teacher can plan more experiments and hands on activities.  I believe this is much better than sitting in a desk all day and learning from a book.  Piaget's theory of cognitive development agrees with all of the new technology advancements especially if it helps create more hands on plans.  Piaget believes students learn more through active learning experiences.  His basic assumptions are, "Children are active and motivated learners" and "Children construct knowledge from their experiences" (Ormrod 25).  New technology can defiantly motivate students.  This is a positive characteristic of the future because motivation is very important inside a classroom.  In Barbara Means Technology and Education Reform she says,"technology can motivate students to attempt harder tasks and to take more care in crafting their work" (202).  This is a really positive thing because technology can challenge the students into learning difficult mater.  Vygotsky's theory of cognitive development would agree with this.  Vygotsky believed that students can learn more advanced material when they are with an adult to help them.  With new technology the student wants to learn more challenging material and the teacher is there to help them.  As technology advances us educators have to keep up with it so we can understand and use it in our classroom.  If we do not keep up with society we will fail at teaching.

We are pretty positive that the classroom is going to be different in the future.  It has changed so much already.  Schools started in a one room building and we now have the most beautiful schools in the world.  Things have changed so much from back then and we know that they are going to keep changing.  One example is that most people do not write letters anymore.  Everyone emails because it is so much faster and it does not cost money to email.  As future teachers we need to use our knowledge of what we grew up with and use it in our classrooms.  We also have to keep up with the lastest information to be an inspiring teacher and to help our children learn.  If we do not teach our students the latest information they will not survive in their generation.
