“Shake It Up”

            Technology has been making major break throughs for the past few years, so why isn’t education doing the same?  Classrooms have not progressed in many years, and many have become obsolete.  Jean Piaget believed that children are active and motivated learners, and that they construct knowledge from their experiences.  Children can be more active with technology in the classroom.  Also, children will be able to use technology easier in the workforce if they use it in the classroom first. In order to prepare kids for the future we need to have them using technology in their everyday lives, which means in the classroom as well.

            In order for students to be in the running in the job market, they must be familiar with technology.  Today, every single job deals with technology in some way.  If kids are able to use technology in school, it will make it easier for them in the future, when they must use it.  As Piaget theorized, students construct knowledge from prior experiences.  There prior experiences need to be in the classroom.

            There are many forms of technology that can be used.  The simplest one being the computer.  There are classroom’s these days that do not even have computers.  Teachers these days can use SMARTboards to enhance their classes.  SMARTboards really have a great impact on the students.  Kids really get involved in class when it appears that they are not learning, and they are just having fun.  Piaget theorized that students are active and motivated learners.  If teachers can keep kids active and on their toes in the classroom instead having them do bookwork all the time, it is more likely they will be able to learn.  It is also more likely they will want to come to class and learn.

            Many classrooms are preparing students the same way they were preparing them in the 1950’s.  However, the world is not the same as it was in the 1950’s.  Kids can’t just read the book and take notes on notebook paper anymore.  They have to be involved and learn like they are in the 21^st century. 

            In order to truly teach students to the fullest, that must include the use of technology.  Without technology teachers are not preparing kids, and students will be at a disadvantage in the future.
